Wood Sculpture Symposium

Since 1999 the Thomas Bata Foundation has been hosting an annual, week-long wood sculpture symposium at the Bata Villa, reflecting Zlins proximity to some of Europe’s finest mixed wood forests.

Eight participants are selected from among applicants attending graduate or post-graduate art schools and colleges around the world. They are provided with all necessary equipment and tools (chain and electric saws, sanders, drills, planes etc.*), accommodation and meal allowances. The symposium concludes with a formal exhibition. Completed works are displayed in the gardens of the Bata Villa, and published in a catalogue which is distributed to all participants.

Applicants must provide a portfolio and a curriculum vitae.

* Chisels are not supplied.
