The Thomas Bata Foundation
The main mission of the Thomas Bata Foundation is not only to preserve the history of the Bata family and its traditions, but especially to provide support to projects focusing on sound development of a prosperous community in the field of social and cultural development, education of youth and adults, and to entrepreneurial activities.
In the field of education, the Foundation acts as an educational centre, organizing conferences, seminars and training courses on current topics. Apart from that, the Foundation together with Junior Achievement supports business and economic education at schools, organizes exhibitions and concerts of young promising artists.
In performing its cultural and historical activities, the Thomas Bata Foundation cooperates with local institutions and organizations, including the Zlín Regional government, The Regional Gallery, and the Bata School of Work Graduates' Club. A significant number of the Foundation's activities are related to the operation of the Tomáš Baťa University and other schools in the Zlín region.
Among the most important annual activities are traditional international workshops of student wood sculptors, the awarding of the Thomas Bata Foundation prize for the best thesis written in English, annual May 1 celebrations for the general public, the 'Test Your Managerial Skills' competition and other events.
The Foundation plays an important role by providing support to scientific projects of young artists and other student projects.
The Thomas Bata Foundation is headquartered in the restored villa that was once the home of Tomáš Baťa, locally known as the Bata Villa. It has become a place firmly rooted in the history of the town, not only from the historical point of view, but also thanks to its activities focused on the transforming society, the sound development of which is the future of our country.
