2008 marked the passing of Thomas J. Bata, son of Tomas Bata, at age 93.

Thomas Bata Prize

For the presentation and defense of the best thesis in English: the winner of the 2008 prize was Ing. Zdeňkovi Drbálkovi for his thesis entitled 'Developing components for distributed search engine ObjectSpot.' The winner receives a glass plaque and 14-day internship at a Bata company.
